Do you want the best performance possible out of your system? Chances are you do :) and that's where AnalogX CacheBooster comes in - it gives you the ability to tweak the disk cache (this is NOT virtual memory) to get the most out of your computer.

AnalogX CacheBooster is very simple to use - just run the program from your Start Menu and it will display how it's currently configured, then you can either select a new configuration from the dropdown box or change the settings manually. None of the changes are applied to the system until you press the 'Apply changes' button - then just reboot your system (it's required for cache changes to take effect) and you're done! If you would like to store a custom configuration for later use it's even easier; just set everything up the way you like and press 'Add', you'll then be prompted for the name of the config you just entered and that's it!

With CacheBooster you can specify the following settings: the minimum disk cache ensures that the cache will never fall below this size, while the maximum disk cache size ensures that Windows doesn't go crazy and allocate a huge amount of your physical ram unnecessarily (this is especially useful in systems with smaller amounts of memory). Usually in my experience it's better to have these values the same, but this may not be the case on every system. Chunk Size is how the cache will cut up memory - so if you tend to work with smaller files, then it's usually better to have a smaller chunk size; conversely if you work with large files, the larger the chunk size the better. For just general performance, 512Kb is recommended... The Name and Directory cache work in conjunction with eachother and control how much memory is set aside for caching the filenames and directories that are used by programs, which can speed up subsequent accesses.

Because you probably tend to do a variety of things on your computer such as playing games and browsing the Internet, one configuration won't necessarily be the most optimal for everything. This really only applies to applications that want every ounce of performance that they can get (such as most games), and AnalogX CacheBooster understands that. If you minimize the application and right click on the icon on your system tray, you can quickly select between any of the configurations you have specified! So, instead of just rebooting to make sure everything is perfect for gaming (or whatever) you can totally change your caching configuration in one easy step!
